Our naturally coily, curly, and kinky hair requires much maintenance. Moisture is the number 1 recommendation. Regular, gentle brushing and detangling come at number two. Some would also be tempted to say trimming the ends is just as important as moisturization. But, we will put that off for another time. We all have something in our hair care closet that gets us Naturalistas through any season, come rain or shine. Here are four items that can help you get your hair through the everyday stresses.
1. Satin is a bedtime buddy for Kinky, Coily, Curly Hair. You should never go to bed without having a satin bonnet, satin scarf, or satin pillowcase to protect your hair. I cringe at the thought of actually going to bed with nothing wrapped around my head. Going to bed without wrapping something around your hair is “the thing nightmares are made of”. Our natural hair cannot live without satin. Why? sleeping with a satin increases the chances of tangling, promotes dryness, and causes hair breakage.
2. Bobby Pins is the best thing for styling Kinky, Coily, Curly Hair. Ok, this may be a
generalized statement. There are some people in this world that can style their hair without bobby pins. But, there are also those who are challenged when it comes to holding that hair in place. If you do a lot of fro hawk styles or high buns, you definitely need the bobby pins.
3. A Good Line of Natural Hair Care Products. You should be very picky about the hair care products you choose. It is imperative that we as Natrualistas start to hold ourselves accountable for what we decide to put on our heads. Did you know some brands of natural hair care products contain a compound called Urea? Urea is a chemical found in…you guessed it….urine! So, carefully research and reviewed the products you choose for your hair and do not get hooked on a product line that cares all about your money and nothing about you and your hair. Word to the Wise.
+1 The Phone to Communicate. Yes, our Kinky, Coily, Curly Hair Needs the Phone. You are thinking: Why does my hair need a phone? Well, it eliminates selfishness and enhances sharing. You say whaaaat? Without your phone, you would have a limited way to communicate and share hair care tips and ideas with others. Your phone will allow you to share ideas on social media. Additionally, your phone will allow you to share your DIYs and it will give you access to other’s DIYs.
There you have it, the top 3 things +1 Bonus that our natural hair cannot live without.
